Step 1 – Application

Step 2 – Auditions

You’ll need to complete an audition to be admitted to the Petrie School of Music.

First, complete the Petrie School of Music Graduate Audition Application at least two weeks prior to your proposed audition date.

Audition Requirements: The audition should be a minimum of twenty minutes in length and demonstrate at least two style periods. Memory is required in piano, strings, and voice (except oratorio).

If you are unable to attend an in-person audition date, you may submit a recorded audition. Please upload an unlisted video to YouTube and send the video link to Macey Atkins. All materials must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the audition review dates.

Step 3 – Transcripts

Send your transcripts using one of the credit evaluation agencies below. If you have started or completed a bachelor’s degree, you’ll need to send transcripts from each college you have attended.

Submit a Course-by-Course evaluation.

Step 4 – Language Test Scores

Please submit your TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Step 5 – Declaration of Finances

You’ll need to submit proof of financial means to study in the United States by completing the Declaration of Certification of Finances Form. Financial verification for international students is required to issue the immigration document (I-20).

Step 6 – Health Insurance

Health and accident insurance are a requirement for international students. You’ll need to show proof of insurance prior to enrolling.

Step 7 – Housing Application

If you would like to stay on campus, please complete the Graduate Housing Application.

Step 8 – Pay Tuition and Fees

All international students are required to pay the appropriate portion of the total prior to the start of each semester. After you are admitted, the Office of Admission will go over your next steps for payment. A $100 deposit will be required.

Graduate Performance Diploma students have the option to buy a Converse meal plan.

A founding member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the Petrie School of Music offers co-educational graduate programs that provide students with the advanced training necessary for successful musical careers or doctoral study.

In addition to holding the prestigious status as an All Steinway School, the Petrie School of Music boasts two nationally recognized performance halls and one of the largest music research libraries in the Southeast.

If during their time in the Graduate Performance Diploma program students meet all admission requirements to the MM program (in many cases by raising their TOEFL score to the required level), they may apply earned credits to that program with the approval of the appropriate faculty and the Music Graduate Committee.

The housing fee covers students’ stay in the residence halls for the duration of the program. Students may also opt to make their own housing arrangements off-campus. Graduate students have the option to buy a Converse meal plan.

Residence Halls

Graduate Performance Diploma students who choose on-campus housing will live in The Heath Apartments together with other graduate students as roommates. Each apartment contains a kitchen.
